Coming into the first 2 rounds of the Probikx series, I was extremely excited to race in the Elite women’s category with 3 Olympians in a stacked group of girls I knew I would have to race to my absolute best standard.
I arrived into the Gold Coast with a few days of practice before racing. Which was a good opportunity to settle into my accommodation and the weather conditions. I was excited to have my first team set up at a race, with the Cyclecraft team pits right next to staging, it was a perfect environment with my team mates supporting me and plenty of room to stay comfortable for a long, hot few days ahead.
Round 1 did go to plan with a few mistakes in my first moto, my points weren’t enough to qualify through to the final, but I got my recovery in and reflected on my mistakes to come into the second round stronger.
Round 2 was an early start, and with the muscles starting to fatigue I knew it would take more time to warm up for my first moto. After getting an amazing start and in a qualifying position I wasn’t able to keep it rubber side down with a crash in the first corner.
After that I was unsure of how I was going to get the qualifying points in the next few mottos,But with a talk from one of my good friends and the teams support I really got my head in the right place to succeed by getting a 4th in my next to moto’s and qualifying 7th for the final. Coming out of lane 7th I moved across as best I could, but lost a lot of speed out of the first corner, I managed to slot in behind the group and watched as they all went quite high in the 2nd corner. Taking the inside line I just missed a crash taking out 4 riders, unclipping. I managed to get clipped back in and finish the race in 3rd behind Caroline Buchanan and Lauren Reynolds.
More then anything, over the weekend I was proud to just been in the final for my first year in elite with some of the best riders not only in Australia but the world.
Thanks to the support of Cyclecraft and all the co-sponsors and people involved in the team for making the event such a positive experience.
